Create Your Very Own Prayer Journal!
Creating your very own prayer journal is a great way to get closer to God and make sure you remember what you pray for.
All you need to start your own prayer journal is a notebook—preferably one that has room for you to list what you’ll be praying for, as well as details about when and how you prayed. The rest is up to you! Some people like to include pictures or inspirational quotes in their prayer journals, while others only want a simple space to list the things they’re praying for. It’s totally up to you!
The best part of having your own prayer journal is that it can evolve with your needs and desires. If keeping track of when and where you prayed feels overwhelming at first, then don’t do it! You can always add these details in later on.
Create a prayer journal using these five simple steps.
- Choose your method of writing: pen and paper or a notes app on your phone. You can also use a prayer journaling app if you want to keep it online, or you can create a virtual one on a word processor.
- Pick the place where you’ll write your journal. You might want to sit in your favourite chair with the lights off and some instrumental music playing softly in the background, or maybe you prefer the bustle of the local café.
- Write down what you’re thankful for. Your gratitude list doesn’t have to be long—just jot down three things that are going well today. Doing this will help put your mind in a positive place and remind you of all the good things happening in your life, even when it doesn’t always feel like it.
- Write down what’s bothering you. List the top three things that are worrying or bothering you right now. This doesn’t have to be an exhaustive list; just choose the three things that are uppermost in your mind at the moment.
- Jot down any requests for help with those issues, if there are any. You don’t need to ask for specific solutions—it’s enough to ask God for help and leave it at that.
Journaling allows you to develop a meaningful relationship with God while also enjoying some time away from the hustle and bustle of your day-do-day life. It can help make starting or continuing your spiritual journey a little easier – and a lot more fun!
