Blessed Are The Peacemakers

Matthew 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

When we hear the term “peacemaker,” our first thought is of someone who maintains the peace between two opposing parties. “Blessed are the peacemakers”…when the term “peacemaker” is used, our initial thought is of someone who keeps the peace between two opposing parties. The term “peacemaker” refers to someone who resolves conflicts without resorting to the use of physical force, although the possibility of resorting to such force is sometimes present and is intended to be used only if absolutely necessary.

When Jesus (Yeshua), the Prince of Peace (in Hebrew the “Sar Shalom”), returns for the second time, He will usher in the Messianic age of Shalom — His strength will be on display as He rules with a “rod of iron.”

When I was studying the Hebrew New Testament, I noticed that the word “peacemaker” has a completely different connotation than what we understand it to mean in English. This was an interesting discovery. The phrase “rod-fey shalom” translates to “peacemaker” when translated from Hebrew.

The word shalom can be used to refer to peace, but its meaning goes far beyond that. In addition, it can mean fulfilment, wealth, protection, happiness, contentment, health, blessing, and rest. In its original Hebrew form, the verb “rod-fey” literally means “to run after” or “to chase!”

It says to “chase after shalom” in Hebrew, which literally means to run after the peace that God provides. And the only way to discover the peace that God offers is through our “Sar Shalom,” or our Prince of Peace!

Let’s make it a goal to deepen our relationship with the Lord to a new level, shall we? Let’s make it our mission to gain a more in-depth understanding of our Lord; if we are successful, we will be rewarded with increased tranquilly, contentment, blessings, and rest. Given the amount of work that needs to be done, isn’t it comforting to know that we have access to this RIGHT NOW through our Sar Shalom?
