TODAY’S DAILY DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE
Working Relationship
As we develop, our relationships develop alongside us and become increasingly complex. When we are infants, we live with our parents and, most likely, our siblings and our cousins. Then, as time passes, new characters, including friends, neighbours, coworkers, spouses, in-laws, and others, enter the narrative.
As our connections with others shift, we require time to readjust to our new roles. It is not always simple to respect someone who was formerly your equal, such as a new boss, nor is it always simple for a newlywed couple to recognise the strong connection that their partner may have with their family.
Paul writes, “You should have the same mindset as Christ Jesus in your relationships with one another.” Christ emptied himself of his heavenly glory and took on the form of a human so that he could relate to and save us. As a consequence of this, we have a Savior “who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin;” consequently, Christ can “empathise with our weaknesses” because he has been in our shoes (Hebrews 4:15). We can approach the Lord “with confidence” to “receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need” because he understands how we feel in different relationships (Hebrews 4:16).
In order for a relationship to be successful, both parties involved need to take a lesson from Jesus and put themselves in the position of the other. Are we ready to “bow down in reverence for Christ” by humbling ourselves and submitting to the authority of others?
