TODAY’S DAILY DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

Matthew 9:12 – Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.”

I don’t think I’m sick enough to need to go to the hospital, Although the doctor disagreed with what you said, you may have said it. You obeyed his instructions because you believe he is more familiar with your physical condition than you are.

You serve as a good example for many people because of this. We occasionally feel pretty good about ourselves, so we don’t always feel very sinful. God, however, holds a different opinion. You are lost and miserable sinners, he tells us, and your only chance of salvation is to trust in my Son, who died to pay the price for your transgressions.

We trust the doctor and visit the hospital even if we don’t feel particularly ill. Let’s express the same faith in our Creator. Let’s examine his Law to understand why he calls us sinners. Let’s use Jesus Christ, God’s Son, who heals our souls by winning the forgiveness of our sins through his death on the cross, as our remedy for this disease that will never go away.

Prayer:

Lord God, please help me to acknowledge my transgressions and to take your Law at its word when it accuses me. But please give me more faith to accept your Gospel’s account of how your Son won my forgiveness and eternal life. Amen.
