“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” -Matthew 11:28
We go to the doctor because we are in need of assistance. Our bodies hurt. Jesus extends an invitation to all of us to come to him in the midst of our suffering. He is the Great Physician, and he is the one who has control over our lives. He provides healing, most commonly by empowering doctors with the ability to do so.
Jesus brings a greater rest to those who follow him. The agony of our guilt and the weight of our sin are both removed from our shoulders by him. On Calvary, he was the one to bear the load. There, he worked his healing on our spirits.
Jesus is the “first aid” we need for both our physical and spiritual selves.
Jesus, I come to you to find peace. Please hear my prayer. Bring peace to my mind through your forgiveness, and heal the wounds that have been inflicted upon my body. Amen.
