I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope.
— Psalm 130:5
Maybe you can relate to the psalmist’s statement that his “whole being waits” when he writes that. In the midst of total darkness, his heart and soul long for a sign from God, a glimmer of light. He flits back and forth between praying to God and telling himself how good and dependable God is.
When there is a chance of receiving bad news, fear creeps into our waiting, which can make the situation feel intolerable. We must maintain a constant focus on God, the source of hope for this life and the next, just like the psalmist did. Nothing that happens will be too much for God to handle for us.
Prayer:
We cautiously pray to the Lord for patience as we deal with both minor irritations and significant, life-changing, frightful issues. I appreciate your never-ending mercy. Give us unwavering hope in your Word. Amen.
